If you’re tired of textures appearing right in front of your eyes, this mod will be useful! It improves the level of detail (LOD) settings, eliminating sudden object appearances and providing smoother visualization.

The mod is a simple customization of the Engine.ini file, which improves the display of objects at long distances, preventing them from “appearing” right in front of you.

Installation

  • Download the More Detailed LOD file from the Nexus Mods page.
  • Navigate to the folder where your Engine.ini file is located. Here are the possible paths:
  • Windows (Steam): %appdata%\Local\Stalker2\Saved\Config\Windows
  • Windows (Game Pass): %appdata%\Local\Stalker2\Saved\Config\WinGDK
  • Steam Deck/Linux: /home/deck/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/1623730/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/AppData/Local/Stalker2/Saved/Config/Windows
  • If the Engine.ini file already exists, simply drag and drop the modified file into the appropriate folder.
  • If the Engine.ini file does not exist, add the file manually to the same folder.

Compatibility

If you use other mods that edit the Engine.ini file, simply add these lines manually to the [SystemSettings] section:

r.ViewDistanceScale=1.5
r.StaticMeshLODDistanceScale=0.5
foliage.LODDistanceScale=3
r.SkeletalMeshLODBias=-1
r.Shadow.CSM.MaxCascades=2
r.Shadow.DistanceScale=1.5

Testing Notes:

  • After installing the mod, large objects such as trees will no longer appear and disappear suddenly.
  • Grass rendering issues may persist in some cases.
  • Performance Impact
  • This mod increases VRAM usage, especially when using an RTX 40XX card. It is recommended to adjust the settings for an optimal balance between performance and image quality.

Important warning

This is a temporary solution at the moment. GSC developers are aware of the “appearing textures” issue and this mod may be removed after updates are released.

Performance Impact

This mod can affect performance as it increases video memory (VRAM) utilization, especially on graphics cards such as the RTX 40XX series. If your system cannot handle maintaining a stable 60 FPS or you have less than 8GB of video memory, this may cause lags or lower FPS. To minimize these effects, it is recommended that you adjust the mod settings manually to achieve the best balance between performance and image quality.

Can I use this mod with other changes to the Engine.ini file?
Yes, if you are already using other mods that also edit the Engine.ini file, you can integrate them manually. To do so, just add the necessary lines from this mod to the [SystemSettings] section. This will not cause a conflict if you merge the settings correctly, following the instructions in the compatibility section.

This mod is designed to improve visual effects in the game, eliminating problems with “appearing” objects at long distances, which greatly improves comfort during the game.

  3. Run the game and the mod should work.
If the mod doesn't work, it needs to be unzipped. Almost all mods have the format .pak. This is the format in which you should copy the file to the directory above.
